Communities of color and younger voters overindex in terms of mobile use, making mobile-first messaging essential for communicating with key constituents and driving progressive outcomes at the local, state, and national levels. A recent study found that 92% of Facebook ad clicks occur on mobile devices. In this training, we’ll discuss tactics and emerging best practices for leveraging ever-changing mobile-focused platforms to reach people where they are and engage in sustained conversations to support advocacy actions and electoral mobilization.

Josh Merritt

Josh Merritt is a Digital Organizer with For Our Future Ohio, where he helps develop and execute digital media strategies around issues and elections. Recently, he’s worked on using automation and chatbots to develop more robust voter engagement efforts.

Josh holds a B.A. in Communications with a focus on Human Computer Interaction from The Ohio State University, an area of study that focuses on assessing the needs of the end user by employing quantitative and qualitative research techniques to create online content systems.

Josh also has a Minor in Fine Art and is the owner/operator of JLM Glass Studio LLC in Dayton, OH. Josh has been a practicing Glassblower for over 11 years and has traveled the globe to advance as an artist.

Sha’Tisha Young

Sha’Tisha Bagford-Young was born in Colorado Springs CO, grew up in Dayton OH and currently lives in Xenia OH. Sha’Tisha’s previous work includes more than 7 years in public libraries. Sha’Tisha has interned for NARAL and Planned Parenthood, and has worked closely with several other reproductive freedom organizations across the state. Sha’Tisha is passionate about progressive causes because “people of tomorrow deserve a better future than we are faced with today, and that future is only achievable through the total removal of barriers, and equitable access to basic human rights.” Fun fact: Sha’Tisha is the proud pet parent of 7 incredible cats!
