Session Type(s): Panel
Starts: Thursday, Aug. 2 9:00 AM (Central)
Ends: Thursday, Aug. 2 10:15 AM (Central)
Room: 222
The days of politicians attacking and demonizing the LGBTQ community to win elections are over. Increasing support for LGBTQ equality across demographic groups has led us to a tipping point evidenced by polling and recent election results in states like North Carolina, Alabama and Virginia. The panel will discuss how a new rising Equality Vote of 52 million Americans—self-identified LGBTQ individuals and their friends, family, and allies—is a voting bloc to be respected, sought-after, and feared by candidates on both sides of the aisle.
Geoff Wetrosky, a veteran campaign manager with extensive experience in electoral, legislative and issue campaigns, is Campaign Director for HRC Rising, a bold, proactive grassroots campaign to accelerate progress in states from coast-to-coast, resist the politics of hate, fight anti-LGBTQ legislation, and fuel pro-equality candidates and initiatives in 2018, 2020 and beyond.
Geoff joined HRC after serving as National Campaign Manager for the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), where he was responsible for the development and management of political, legislative, and issue campaigns at the national, state, and local levels. He has a decade’s worth of on-the-ground experience on presidential, gubernatorial, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and municipal-level campaigns in 11 different states.
Geoff grew up in Beresford, SD and received his undergraduate degree from Augustana University. He and his husband reside in Washington, DC.
