Searing images of people in wheelchairs fighting for healthcare was an important force in the battle to protect the Affordable Care Act. Yet people with disabilities remain a mostly untapped population within the larger progressive movement, despite being the largest minority population. Too often progressive diversity outreach programs fail to sufficiently include strategies to reach those with disabilities and their families or caregivers. This training will provide strategies on how to build coalitions with people with disabilities and their caregivers, provide ideas on designing diversity outreach programs to include those with disabilities, and give tips on how to empower people with disabilities to fight for their rights.
