J.D. Scholten is an Iowa State Representative from House District 1. In 2018, he received nationwide attention for his strong grassroots campaign against Rep. Steve King in Iowa’s 4th District, falling just 3 points short in a district that Donald Trump won by 27 points in 2016. In 2020, he ran again and took the campaign RV to all 374 towns in the district and was one of the few non-incumbent Democratic candidates to outperform the top of the ticket. Before politics, he played professional baseball and has played baseball in 7 different countries. He also runs an economic populist newsletter called "You're Probably Getting Screwed."
