Self Organizing Sessions

We’re changing up our caucus structure this year to make them all self-organized sessions, giving communities that want to gather a chance to do so on their own terms. Prior to July 1, people who want to hold a session will be able to sign up for a time slot online. The remainder of the time slots will be open to self-organize on-site in St. Louis.

We’ll also be offering a new framework for these sessions, so that it’s clear to both folks who affiliate with an identity and those outside of it what the standards are.

There are three kinds of sessions depending on what kind of discussion will be held and if the caucus is ‘open’ or not.

  • Issue/Topic/Geographic Roundtable: Facilitated discussions on an issue area or around an idea (ie OSDI Caucus, Student Debt Caucus). All are welcome to attend and participate.
  • Open Identity Caucus: Discussions led and centered on specific identities, but open to all to attend.
  • Closed Identity Caucus: Discussions led and centered on specific identities, and are limited to those who so affiliate.
