Bloggers Brunch
This informal brunch gives attendees a chance to dialog with a panel of bloggers and Netroots Nation staff members and talk about actions they can take from Austin to their hometowns. Breakfast will be served.
Adam Bonin is a member of the law firm of Cozen O'Connor in Philadelphia. He represents clients in election law and campaign finance matters, including leading progressive bloggers, and Adam been extensively involved on behalf of the rights of online speakers. He also represents international commercial clients in a multibillion-dollar lawsuit against the people, entities and nations that knowingly financed al Qaida before September 11, 2001. Adam chairs the Philadelphia Lawyers chapter of the American Constitution Society, and is a featured writer on the DailyKos frontpage focusing on legal issues. He blogs about pop culture at http://throwingthings.blogspot.com.
Josh Orton is political director for Netroots Nation. Previously, Orton served as executive producer for Air America's "The Majority Report" with Sam Seder and Janeane Garofalo, press secretary for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and deputy new media director for the Barack Obama campaign. A Wisconsin native and current New York resident, Orton also blogs at MyDD.com. He believes that this is the Cubs' year.
Nolan Treadway is logistics director for Netroots Nation. Treadway went from Daily Kos lurker to convention organizer in March 2005 when the call went out for people with experience in planning conventions. Having spent four years in the Bay Area working in convention sales, he had the right mix of experience and naïvety to help plan the first two conventions as a volunteer. Treadway received his bachelor’s degree in business from Michigan State University and earned a master’s in public policy from the American University School of Public Affairs in Washington, DC.
Cheryl Contee, Partner at Fission Strategy, specializes in helping non-profit organizations and foundations use social media for social good. She is also the co-founder of JackandJillPolitics.com writing as Jill Tubman on one of the top 10 black blogs online, She has over 13 years of award-winning interactive expertise and previously served as lead digital strategist for Fleishman-Hillard for the West Coast in San Francisco. Cheryl has appeared in the Washington Post, New York Times, San Francisco Magazine, BBC and CNN among other media appearances. She received her B.A. from Yale University and has an M.B.A. from Georgetown University.
John Aravosis is a DC-based writer and political strategist, and the editor of AMERICAblog.com. Since 1995, John has been one of the nation’s top political Internet experts. John has a law degree and master in foreign service from Georgetown. He’s worked in the US Senate, World Bank, Children’s Defense Fund, and as a stringer for the Economist. John stopped Dr. Laura, bought Wesley Clark’s cell phone records online, and he’s the reason you know Mary Cheney is a lesbian. To his utter embarrassment, John is best known for outing conservative White House “reporter” Jeff Gannon as a male hooker.
Mary Rickles is the director of media and marketing for Netroots Nation. She previously worked in marketing and branding at the award-winning San Francisco magazine. Since her first job as a reporter, she has worked with agencies, non-profits and corporate companies on projects ranging from brand development to marketing strategy to event production. She grew up in Birmingham, AL, and currently lives in San Francisco.
