Created, nurtured and developed in the Blogosphere, Energize America (www.ea2020.org) has developed innovative approaches to move forward toward a prosperous, climate-friendly society. EA2020 is working at the nexus of the blogosphere, citizen activism, local governance and Congress. This panel will highlight the strengths and weaknesses of this effort, while setting out an agenda for progress.

Jerome Guillet

Jerome Guillet is a French investment banker based in Paris, specialized in the energy sector, and more specifically on wind power. He blogs as "Jerome a Paris" on DailyKos and other sites and is editor of the European Tribune (www.eurotrib.com), a website and European politics and international affairs, and contributing editor to The Oil Drum (www.theoildrum.com), a website focused on energy. He's also a member of the "Energize America" Netroots effort to draft a sane energy policy.

Mark Sumner

Mark Sumner is the author of 32 novels, he's a past winner of Writers of the Future, and has been nominated for both the Nebula and World Fantasy Awards. In his 48 years, he's been a newspaper photographer, a coal miner, a software designer, a geologist, and a perpetual student. He lives with his wife in a log cabin south of St. Louis. He's worked on campaigns for thirty years, and has never risen higher than knocker on doors and maker of annoying phone calls.

Mark Begich

Currently the mayor of Anchorage, Mark Begich is a Democrat running to represent Alaska in the U.S. Senate. He has made smart energy policies a priority in Anchorage. Prior to being elected Mayor in 2003, Begich served in the Anchorage Assembly for ten years and was a successful businessman. Debbie Cook

Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook is running for Congress in the 46th Congressional district against Dana Rohrabacher. Cook has served for eight years on the Huntington Beach City Council. She has devoted much of her adult life and her legal career to protecting parks, beaches and environmentally sensitive wetlands in Orange County. A member of the board of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil, she considers reducing America's dependence on fossil fuels an environmental and national security imperative.

Jeff Merkley

Currently Oregon's Speaker of the House, Jeff Merkley is running against Republican Gordon Smith for U.S. Senate. As House Speaker, Jeff presided over the greenest session Oregon has seen in the last thirty years. He led a band of progressive Democrats to pass the most expansive renewable energy package Oregon has ever seen. Fighting climate change and ending our dependence on fossil fuels has always been a huge priority for Jeff Merkley.
