This session will show you how you can conduct your own opposition research about local politicians and media figures for your progressive campaign.

Ari Rabin-Havt

Ari Rabin-Havt is Vice President for Research and Communications at Media Matters. Previously, Rabin-Havt was the Managing Director of the Media Matters Action Network. In 2008 Rabin-Havt served as Deputy Director of Progressive Accountability, a joint project of the Center for American Progress Action Fund and the Media Matters Action Network, where he was responsible for, among other things, producing a feature length documentary titled Third Term, focusing on the similarities between John McCain's and President Bush's policies. Throughout his career he has worked with numerous progressive politicians and organizations including former Vice President Al Gore, the Alliance for Climate Protection, the ONE campaign, and the ACLU among others.

Mike Gehrke

Mike Gehrke has managed and directed research, communications, and strategic planning for political candidates, non-profits and causes at every level and in 15 states. His career highlights include: Serving as the Research Director for President Bill Clinton in the White House Communications Office from 1999-2001; Directing primary and general election research for the 2004 presidential campaign of Sen. John Kerry; and leading opposition research/communication efforts for the Democratic National Committee in the 2007-08 presidential primary campaign. He has also worked for the AFL-CIO Political Department, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and was the Executive Director of the Senate Majority Project, an independent 527 political committee, in the 2006 election cycle. Mike is currently the Director of Communications and a member of the Board of Directors of U.S. Chamber Watch.
