Screening Series Showcase: Immigration + Discussion
With so many filmmakers, organizations and everyday bloggers creating video, Netroots Nation is delighted to offer a screening showcase that will feature short segments of the diverse work created by, distributed through and appealing to the Netroots. This showcase will present several film projects, giving each filmmaker up to 15 minutes minutes to show a clip, discuss the project, ask for feedback / help / connections.
In addition to these short presentations, directors will engage in a group dialogue about how film helps influence the immigration debate.
This is a double session to accommodate the screenings and discussion. You are welcome to come just for one half or the other, or to stay throughout.
Speaking in Tongues: In a time of globalization and changing demographics, language becomes a metaphor for breaking down barriers between ourselves and our neighbors—be they around the corner or across the world. At a time when 30 states have passed “English Only” initiatives, Speaking in Tongues explores the compelling notion that speaking a foreign language is a national asset.
Not In Our Town III: About the events in Patchogue, New York following the murder of a 37-year-old Latino immigrant. Not In Our Town's films and social media efforts highlight positive community responses to hate crimes and hate-based violence.
Restore Fairness: 9 minute video that calls for the U.S. government to bring back due process and fairness to the immigration system.
Additional films may be included in this session. Line-up is subject to change -- please consult online calendar for up-to-date schedule.
