Reform Immigration FOR America: Using Mobile as an Integrated Campaign Strategy

Friday, July 23rd 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM
Panel, Brasilia 3
Friday, July 23rd, 3:30pm - 4:45pm
Brasilia 3

The session will explore using mobile as an integrated media strategy in an issue campaign. Examining the use of mobile in the fight for immigration reform, the panel will discuss and explore how to use mobile effectively to whip elected officials, maintain momentum for an issue, mobilize your base and build a rapid response network to counter opposition. We'll highlight the benefits and drawbacks of mobile and the specific uses in overall campaign strategy. The session will also explore how to navigate the tension between the field and a national campaign. The Reform Immigration FOR America campaign is nationally controlled, but the mobile list can be used at the local and state level. This duality creates an inherent tension that can be helpful but challenging to navigate. By allowing both national and field organizers the space to discuss these challenges, the session will provide the audience with best practices and a comprehensive overview of working in a multi-level coalition.

Rachel LaBruyere

Rachel is the Director of Mobile Strategy at Mobile Commons. She works to find creative and innovative ways for campaigns and organizations to use mobile as an integrated part of their strategy. From recruiting volunteers and organizing house parties, to making a huge impact on the legislative process, mobile is where it’s at folks (at least according to Rachel).

In her time with the Reform Immigration FOR America campaign, Rachel was responsible for growing one of the largest and most active mobile opt in lists ever. Most importantly, Rachel took an exciting new technology and integrated it into an existing movement, while managing the organization and organizers involved.
