The Art of Email Engagement
Despite the popularity of social networking and other online tools, email is still the "killer app" for activism and fundraising - allowing you to reach thousands or millions of your supporters quickly at very low cost. But successful email outreach depends on doing a lot of things just right - including building your list, crafting your message, making the right ask and getting your message delivered to (and read by) your subscribers. Join Charles Chamberlain of Democracy for America and Will Easton of CREDO Mobile/CREDO Action to review email best practices, with plenty of real-world examples plus dos and don'ts that will ramp up the effectiveness of any email program, large or small.
Charlie grew up in California. In 1995, he walked into a campaign office in Santa Monica and found out he could make a living out of trying to change the world. It was hard work and long hours, but incredibly rewarding. Charlie was immediately hooked. Since then, he’s worked on direct democracy campaigns in 21 states. He’s worked for a California Assemblymember, ran campaigns for SEIU and AFL-CIO in Oregon, and was the volunteer leader of Miami’s DFA group for 3 years before joining the team at headquarters in Burlington in 2006. Charlie loves his job and his door is always open.
Will Easton is the Email Czar and Activism Manager at CREDO Mobile/Working Assets, the progressive mobile phone company based in San Francisco, where he oversees political and marketing email operations and fights passionately to stop new coal-fired power plants.
Will was inspired into political activism by the Howard Dean campaign of 2004 and served two years as the President of San Francisco for Democracy. In his spare time he’s also served as a graduate-level faculty for nonprofit management information systems at the University of San Francisco, an email trainer for the California Democratic Party, and volunteered on the Charlie Brown for Congress campaign.
