Research proves that women, Hispanics and African-Americans use mobile differently than the general population. This session is designed to engage participants in a discussion about mobile technology and how it can be best used to reach women and minorities. How can we use mobile and WAP effectively to move individuals to action?

Meghan Gaffney

Prior to joining the Dover Group, Meghan Gaffney worked with Majority Action, a Senate issue advocacy organization, where she raised and managed a budget of $4 million. She raised money for the first ever early Presidential Caucus in Nevada after serving as a Regional Financial Services Director at the DCCC in 2006. At the DCCC she oversaw fundraising for the Western Region and worked directly with eight of the winning campaigns.

She has worked on the ground in three Congressional special elections and with national issue advocacy organizations, candidates and committees in California, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Kathie Legg

Kathie Legg is the mobile product manager at National Geographic. She is also a mobile technology consultant and the executive director of MobileMonday DC. Ms. Legg has provided strategy and marketing consulting services to such organizations as USC's Institute for Creative Technologies and AAPC.

Ms. Legg previously served as a political producer at Yahoo! She has also worked as the lead researcher and assistant editor of The Politics-to-Go Handbook: A Guide to Using Mobile Technology in Politics at The George Washington University's Institute for Politics, Democracy & the Internet.

Taryn Rosenkranz

Taryn Rosenkranz serves as the director of marketing and new media for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) where she helps to elect more Democrats to the U.S. House by developing cutting-edge new media activities. She increased the DCCC’s email list by over 400% and has raised over $50 million dollars. Her work has been recognized by the Institute for Politics, Democracy and the Internet with a Golden Dot award and two prestigious Pollie awards. Taryn has both her BA and MA in political science from American University in Washington, D.C.

Brandon English

Brandon English is the Deputy Director of Online Communications for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. His role is to develop and implement interactive campaigns across multiple platforms -- including the DCCC’s website, mobile action campaigns, and social networks -- to support the Democratic Majority in the House of Representatives.

As Editor of the DCCC’s blog, The Stakeholder, Brandon also works closely with local and national bloggers to support Democratic candidates and hold Congressional Republicans accountable for their records.

In addition, Brandon advises Congressional campaigns on their online outreach strategies and helps them build grassroots networks of online supporters.

Michelle Mayorga

Michelle Mayorga is currently a consultant for Cherry Tree Mobile. During the 2008 election cycle, as Mobile Program Director at Rock the Vote Michelle Mayorga leveraged her extensive field organizing experience to direct the youth vote organization's national text message programs. The award winning program grew Rock the Vote's list by 1600% and proved mobile's effectiveness as a voter registration and GOTV tool.

Jamal Simmons

Jamal Simmons, co-founder of Cherry Tree Mobile Media and Principal at the Raben Group, emerged from the 2008 election as one of the new young voices in the world of political analysis. With an extensive background in Democratic politics and international affairs, he was a strong supporter of Barack Obama’s campaign and became a fixture on CNN’s political coverage, where he distinguished himself as one of freshest commentators in media. Simmons has been an advisor to presidential candidates, a cabinet secretary, Congresspeople and Senators. A graduate of Morehouse College, Simmons received a master in public policy degree from Harvard.
