A record number of working Americans believe that the American Dream is out of reach. Shockingly, 69 percent believe it will be even harder for their children to achieve the Dream than it was for them. However, an "American Dream Movement"—progressives of all stripes who understand that the interconnected nature of the challenges we face requires a comprehensive set of solutions—has already begun to grow. Join us for a discussion of this movement—its goals, direction, and tactics—with progressive leaders and others with a stake in restoring the American Dream for everyone.

Fri, 07/18/2008 - 11:30amBallroom E

Employing an inside-outside strategy seems so obvious that it's amazing how often it isn't used. Insiders in Washington regularly fail to engage the public on key issues and then wonder why people never seem to care. And popular ideas in the Netroots fail to take root in Washington because there's nobody on the inside making the case—or worse, the insiders are actively working against the public interest. This panel will look at campaigns that have been a result of innovative collaborations between Washington policy groups and the Netroots.

Fri, 07/18/2008 - 2:30pmBallroom E

An intimate discussion between life-long friends and colleagues Rand Beers, president of the National Security Network, and Richard Clarke, author of the forthcoming book "Your Government Failed You: Breaking the Cycle of National Security Disasters." Beers, who left the Bush administration in protest to become an outspoken leader in the progressive foreign policy community, will interview Clarke on issues such as terrorism, Iraq, climate change, the next administration and how we recover from a reckless era in world affairs within the context of a pronounced progressive movement.

Fri, 07/18/2008 - 4:00pmBallroom E

Some of the most exciting and competitive races of the 2008 election cycle feature some strong progressive candidates running in competitive districts. This panel will feature some of those challengers moderated by Brian Keeler.

Sat, 07/19/2008 - 11:30amBallroom E

Five leading pundits/bloggers connect to discuss a late-breaking issue of universal relevance. Topic will be announced at Netroots Nation.

Sat, 07/19/2008 - 2:30pmBallroom E

Here are two seemingly paradoxical statements: All bloggers who have a solid knowledge base in a specific subject, or who have a flair for writing, should consider writing a book. Most writers are incapable of writing a book and there are tons of books out there that should never have been published. If the first statement applies to you, come check out this panel. By the end of the session, you just might find out that the second statement applies to you.

Sat, 07/19/2008 - 4:00pmBallroom E

Primaries closed or open? Caucuses? Superdelegates? The 2008 Democratic nominating process had everything. Is there a better way? Did the Michigan and Florida primaries finally begin to change the system? This panel will discuss the different aspects of the process from timing to structure. We'll cover the always-contentious issue on which states should go first to how the states conduct their primaries and caucuses. And what role, if any, should superdelegates play in 2012?

Sat, 07/19/2008 - 5:30pmBallroom E

There is nothing on the left corresponding to the politically dynamic religious right. But there are some promising elements with the potential to become greater than the sum of their parts. This panel seeks to address what's going on and what should happen next. We will discuss how common approaches to electoral politics can be found and practiced in a way that respects the unique character of progressive faith.
