Brief description of organization:
FairVote acts to transform our elections to achieve secure access to participation for all, a full spectrum of meaningful ballot choices and majority rule with fair representation. As a catalyst for change, we build support for innovative strategies to win a constitutionally protected right to vote, universal voter registration, a national popular vote for president, instant runoff voting and proportional voting.
What are some recent accomplishments or projects your organization is working on?
FairVote has just launched its organizing and advocacy arm, FairVoteAction. With FairVoteAction, we connect reformers who want to put the voters first. Providing tools, resources and connections to our supporters, we seek to enrich our political landscape, building space for fresh political perspectives, 100% participation, respect for every vote and a level playing field for all. We are a community of democracy activists, concerned citizens and policymakers – a melting pot of politically-minded America.
Tell us how both your organization and convention attendees would benefit from your Hall booth?
At Netroots Nation, we would have the incredible opportunity to meet progressive thinkers, activists, new-media strategists, inspiring individuals, and organizers of all kinds. Over the next year, we intend to grow as a movement, diversifying our supporters and strengthening our community, drawing attention to the connection between change and electoral policy. We believe that Netroots Nation offers a unique opportunity to forge bonds, and connect our progressive reforms to the movements of others.
We will demonstrate our unique Prezi concept presentation which illustrates the plight of our political representation landscape. Using this presentation, we will illustrate how we intend to implement a strategy with the coalition partners found at Netroots Nation intended to result in real representation, not the gridlock we call politics today.
We look forward to interacting and learning from the individuals and organizations attending Netroots Nation, and we hope to develop working groups on our and others’ issues to lay the foundation for true American progress.
